ABOUT ANNE GRASS

Specialist Teacher & Assessor of Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

I have over 20 years experience as a primary school teacher and have taught in mainstream and SEND schools in inner city London, East Cheshire and Hertfordshire. During this time I've worked as a Deputy Headteacher, Inclusion Manager, SENDCO, SEND Expert and Specialist Leader of Education (SEND). Most recently I have been working as the Head of Learning Support in an independent school.  It was working in SEND schools that started my interest, and passion, for managing and teaching SEND children and children who were not reaching their full potential. This interest inspired me to complete a Masters in Teaching, basing my studies on SEND pupils. I have also completed the National Award in SEND Co-ordination along with a PGCert in SpLD (dyslexia). I am a Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) and the Professional Association for teachers and assessors of students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS).

Screening

If a child does not have a diagnosis for dyslexia, but as an educational professional or parent you feel that a/your child has specific learning difficulties (dyslexia), then I am able to  screen the child and write a pupil profile report to identify strengths,  areas of need and recommendations. I am then able to ascertain whether a diagnostic assessment is necessary or if specific tuition is required.

Diagnostic Assessment

A diagnostic assessment is the only way to really understand if a child/pupil is dyslexic or dyscalculic as well as identifying a clearer picture of the young person’s strengths and weaknesses and their individual cognitive profile. I use a variety of assessment measures with the process normally taking around 2.5 to 3 hours. The report will be sent through to you

within 15 working days.

Tutoring

Children with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) need a multi-sensory, structured approach to teaching; they also need a teaching programme which is going to teach them how they can become independent learners. I ensure that all the lessons planned and taught are personalised to the individual child. They normally last one hour, but I would be happy to discuss this with you.
